RE: Coach Handling Theory

To answer the op. I have not made any aftermarket changes either. If I had to spend thousands to be able to drive a new rig down the road, I think I would get rid of it. I did have the alignment checked right after we got the rig ( it was within specs ) to hopefully avoid premature tire wear.

RE: Towing double question

I've been towing doubles for 4 years now ( see sig. ) Arkansas to Baja California. I do not travel in California with doubles. I have never been stopped until this year. Near Miami, Az. the DOT man stopped me and said the front hook needs to be a 5th wheel. He also said no, Az. does not recriprocate with Arkansas. He said I could either unhook or he would have to cite me. He let me go on down the mountian to a safe, level place where I hooked the trailer to the motorhome and wife drove the car. I don't know what we will do next spring when we start home.Any body in Baja like to buy a nice buggy with a trailer?? :(

RE: Sorry for my redundency BUT! Ford V 10 dipstick???

If you put 6 quarts ( with filter change ) there won't be any 'excess' no matter what the dipstick reads.

RE: I would love to hear about

We arrived at our 2nd home ( motorhome in an rv park ) south of San Felipe last monday. I must report we were not beaten, robbed or kidnapped on the way down here. At the border the gentleman checked all my vehicle registrations against my drivers license. I own them all ( motorhome, car, trailer, and dune buggy )so no problem. At the military checkpoint, I didn't even come to a full stop and the guard waved me on through.
Chris, I don't like the big cities, but love the 'wild west' Baja.
Only problem here is it sho' is hot !!

RE: V-10 EXHAUST MANIFOLDS

To answer the op's question, We have not had a problem with the new version of the v10. It only has 15,000 miles to date. Those 'header looking' manifolds sure do growl at about 4,000 rpm.

RE: F-53 V/10 Use Royal Purple?

Naturally Ford says use motorcraft. Castrol has the same specs. I use 5w20 in the 06 model. I used 5w30 in the 97 model we had before. I use castrol in all the gasoline engines we have had over the years. The only place I use 20w50 is in the air cooled VW.
When you said royal purple I thought about Union 76 Triton. I put many gallons in the big trucks back in the 60's. Is that what you are talking about? is it still around?

RE: Damon's New Avanti 31.5' Class A!

"will retail for under $140K"
I can buy a lot of gasoline for that.
If you are willing to spend thousands to save hundreds, I think you should invest in a new calculator.

RE: Towing ball lubrication - Yes or No ?

This seems to be a hot topic, so let me add my, uh, experience. I'm talking about the big rigs here. If the 5th wheel plate becomes dry with a 25 ton load on the trailer the rig will 'grab' and lurch when in a turn. Just before that is when the shop should have lubed the 5th wheel. And, yes, they have grease fittings. We always called it 'galled', rather than 'spalled' Do those 2 words mean the same thing?
Soren, I'm glad to see you have such admiration for truck drivers. Some of us are a little smarter than fenceposts. ;)

RE: What I've done so far since we began full-timing in May

Sounds like you are really enjoying it. We are 'half-timers'. We spend the winters in Baja and will be leaving in a couple of weeks. I'm getting anxious to go, but we can't give up the stick house, too much junk that we can't bear to part with. :)

RE: Mounting a CB radio Antenna

I had a di-pole antenna installed. A 5' stick pointed up and a 2' stick pointed down ( ground ). Looks funny and it is AGCS. It works well.

I can stand ugly. I would have some air tabs except they are way too pricey for me.

RE: Long Stay Suggestions?

We are leaving next month for Baja California where we will stay until March or April. When we get there I will put the jacks down, slides out and that is how we will stay. I will change the engine oil and filter shortly after we arrive. Don't like to sit there that long with dirty oil in the crankcase. :D Oh, and I will cover the tires.

RE: Where they at?

I 40 from Ft. Smith to Little Rock seems to be busy as ever. I filled the Kenworth in Russellville the other day to the tune of $700. and something. I'm sure glad I ain't paying that bill. I think it gets about 4-to 5 mpg moving Caterpillar rental equipment.

Leaving Sept 3rd. Going by way of Wichita, Ks. to visit Donnas folks, then to Apache Jct., Az to visit friends. We will cross at San Luis, RC. & go to our favorite spot near San Felipe until April.
It's gonna be hot in the Baja.
